As a response to proposed development adjacent to a complex of NYCHA buildings, this project engages the subtle topography of Manhattan to demarcate level surfaces for play and inhabitation. While our proposal does not claim to be a one-size fits all solution to the issues facing New York City Housing Authority sites in the city, it offers a clear example of how the strategic infill of NYCHA super blocks can create different scales of public spaces, and how the merging of public and private can bring open space located on the fringes of East Harlem into the neighborhood fabric along the historic grain of existing towers.
